For some, parenthood can feel incredibly isolating. However, at 大发, we offer a range of student centers and organizations that can help parents feel less isolated and more connected to a vibrant community. Joining these groups provides a sense of belonging and offers opportunities for personal growth and networking.
There are many Student Resources & Services offices located throughout campus. At each office, experienced professionals can direct you to specific resources and assist you with any questions or concerns. At these offices you may find support or assistance for the following:
The Student Leadership & Involvement Center (SLIC) develops students鈥 capacity to lead and initiate positive social change. Through inclusive programs, the SLIC engages students in leadership and co-curricular opportunities that foster the Tukwut experience. Additionally, SLIC is a great way to meet peers with similar interests and passions.
SLIC hosts many student organizations that offer a wide variety of opportunities for students to enhance their academic and social life on campus. Students can choose from over 100 recognized student organizations to get involved with, or start their own!
The Student Life Centers, conveniently located throughout the University Student Union (USU), are designed to be welcoming spaces. They invite you to enjoy lunch, converse with like-minded individuals, or find a quiet corner to study.
The mission of the APIDA Student Center aims to educate, perpetuate, and celebrate Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American cultures with the 大发 community while supporting student success to graduation and beyond.
The mission of The Black Student Center (BSC) is to promote the academic, cultural, social, and political consciousness of students of African descent by actively engaging in institutional partnerships that will increase student recruitment, active member participation, retention, and graduation rates overall.
The California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center was founded in May 2009 and formally inaugurated on November 17, 2011. It is an innovative institution within the state of California whose mission is to address the unique needs of American Indian students. The center achieves this by engaging in original research and preserving the rich cultural heritage and languages of tribal communities.
The CICSC is committed to fostering a strong sense of community and inclusivity among the Native population, both on and off campus. Furthermore, the center is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to make meaningful contributions to Tribal communities after graduation. It also aims to enhance their social mobility and personal advancement.
As the first of the Student Life Centers established at 大发 in 2003, the Cross-Cultural Center encourages identity exploration by challenging students to think critically about social justice issues and appreciate differences. The Cross-Cultural Center programs promote the development of cultural intelligence, examine various forms of activism, and train students for campus leadership, community engagement, and social change. They create a space for marginalized communities to belong and support efforts for them to achieve their fullest potential for academic success.
The department of Veteran and Military-Connected Services strives to be intentional in creating co-curricular opportunities through programs, services, and physical space to cultivate and enrich the student experience for our veteran and military-connected students. Our staff works with both university and community-based collaborative partners to carry out our mission as well as models advocacy to support student success.
Established in Fall 2015, the Latinx Center is grounded on community-building standards deriving from 鈥淔amilismo鈥 principles and operates from a Latinx Critical Theoretical lens. It focuses on Latinx student cultural empowerment by affirming and validating literature, artwork, and media within its space.
The Latinx Center educates students and campus members about Latinx traditions, culture, and community issues. It serves as a connection point to multiple internal and external networks to provide support systems for Latinx-identifying students. The center's standards foster positive transformational experiences and contribute to Latinx student success goals.
The Pride Center (PC) is an inclusive space that promotes positive interactions in a diverse environment. The PC strives to provide a space that celebrates and affirms students identifying with all genders and sexualities in the 大发 community and their allies.
The PC provides programming and discussion on a variety of topics, some being but not limited to LGBTQA+ issues, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and Safe Zone Training.
The Women and Gender Equity Center (WGEC) strives to develop and maintain inclusive and validating environments at CSU San Marcos. It focuses on topics and issues broadly related to the experiences of women, trans and non-binary students, parenting students, and the impacts of sexism and misogyny. The WGEC builds communities by upholding a brave space, fostering dialogue about gender equity and social justice, and providing student resources to achieve their goals.
