ASI President Candidates

Elaine Pollard
elainepollard

Howdy Cougars! My name is Elaine and I鈥檓 currently a third year Human Development major with a minor in Business Administration and this year I鈥檝e been serving as ASI鈥檚 Vice President of Student and University Affairs and I鈥檝e been able to learn so much about the day to day operation and rationale behind our campus that I had no idea I was going to be stepping into when I first ran for this position last year. I joined ASI after getting involved with the Student Advocacy Committee as the Housing Representative when I was working as an RA at the UVA and that eventually led to joining Lobby Corps where we advocate forstudents on the local, state, and federal levels and I enjoyed the work so much that I haven鈥檛 looked back. While serving as your VPSUA one of my main jobs has been to advocate for you whether it鈥檚 for student organizations or with students on a personal level and it鈥檚 something that you can never truly master and only ever continue evolving in so I hope I get to continue to do so this upcoming year as your President. During these times, the most important thing for a campus is to provide a safe environment for students that focuses on fostering education and inclusivity while also working to be proactive instead of reactive. This includes making sure that the reporting process for students is straightforward and that you know exactly what the possible outcomes for reporting anything on campus are as well as making sure that the timeline for these processes is well known. Representing you has been such a privilege and I hope that we can continue our journey together to ensure students have the support they deserve while obtaining their education!

  • 1. Why do you want to run for ASI President?

Running for president was a decision made from wanting to work on better advocating for students on the administration level as well as doing everything that ASI is capable of to keep students informed on issues that are affecting them and their on and off campus lives so that they can focus on getting a quality education!

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

Serving as the Vice President of Student and University Affairs this academic year, I鈥檝e been able to focus the majority of my work around student advocacy whether it鈥檚 been things regarding class options or the topic of free speech on campus. I鈥檝e been able to strengthen the connections that ASI has to student orgs who have been searching for advocacy avenues on campus and have also worked on partnering with other entities on campus!

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

After being on campus for three years, it鈥檚 clear that misinformation is something that plagues the student experience whether they know it or not and I hope that ASI can help source correct and relevant information to students. I also hope that we can make sure that the student voice is getting all the way up to administrators where their views can be expressed, and clear action plans can be implemented!

25/26 Vice President of Finance & Operations Candidates

Anahi Martinez Perez
anahiMP

Hello, Cougars! My name is Anahi Martinez Perez, and I am thrilled to be running for the position of Vice President of Finance & Operations in this year鈥檚 ASI elections. I am currently a third year student majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management, alongside a Psychology minor. Over the past two years, I鈥檝e had the privilege of serving as your CoBA Representative, where I鈥檝e gained a deep understanding of the needs of our student body, and I鈥檓 excited to continue my journey of leadership and advocacy in this new role. During my time as a CoBA Representative, I worked closely with students to ensure their voices were heard, and I recognized the importance of bridging the gap for underrepresented groups, like Pre-Business students. This experience has instilled in me a strong passion for creating opportunities, fostering inclusion, and ensuring that all students feel empowered to succeed. As Vice President of Finance & Operations, I will bring my experience in leadership, and student engagement to ensure that student funds are utilized effectively, with transparency and accountability. I am committed to ensuring that all students have access to the resources and support they need, and I will work to ensure that their voices are reflected in the financial decisions made by ASI. In addition, my current position as a Peer Mentor with Personalized Academic Success Services has taught me the importance of mentorship, resource allocation, and supporting fellow students in their academic journeys. As a first-generation college student, I am deeply motivated to ensure that all students have the tools and resources they need to succeed, and I will work hard to make sure their financial concerns are addressed in a way that fosters long-term success for our community. I am passionate about supporting our students, and I believe that my dedication, experience, and leadership skills make me a strong candidate for this position. Thank you for your time and
consideration.

Ashleigh Skarshaug
ashleighskarshaug

My name is Ashleigh Skarshaug, and I am a second-year student double majoring in Criminology and Political Science. Currently, I serve as the Vice President of Philanthropy and Service for Greek Leadership Council, where I help lead service initiatives that foster positive contributions to both the campus and local community. Additionally, as the ASI Sustainability Representative, I promote environmentally conscious efforts and actively vote on key campus committees to represent student interests. My goal is simple, be the voice for all students. I am passionate about listening to the diverse perspectives of our campus community and turning those voices into meaningful action. 大发 has given me countless opportunities to grow and lead, and I am dedicated to giving back to the campus that has given me so much.

  • 1. Why do you want to run for ASI Vice President of Finance & Operations?

I am running for Vice President of Finance & Operations because I am committed to ensuring that ASI鈥檚 financial resources are used in ways that directly benefit students. While ASI maintains strong financial transparency, many students are unaware of the funding opportunities available to them. My goal is to increase awareness and accessibility, ensuring students understand how they can apply for funding, utilize ASI resources, and engage in financial decision-making processes. By making financial information more approachable and expanding funding opportunities, I want to help students maximize the benefits of ASI鈥檚 resources to support their academic and personal success.

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

My leadership experience has given me a strong background in financial oversight, student advocacy, and operational efficiency. As the ASI Sustainability Representative, I chaired a committee that allocated $10,000 to fund a student-led sustainability project, ensuring resources were used effectively to create lasting campus improvements. This experience strengthened my ability to review funding proposals, oversee budget allocations, and advocate for student-led initiatives. Additionally, as Vice President of Philanthropy and Service for the Greek Leadership Council, I help plan events and manage service opportunities, working to increase student involvement and the community as a whole. By expanding outreach and information sessions, I have helped more students understand and take advantage of financial resources available for their organizations. Beyond financial leadership, my role as a Civic Engagement Ambassador has allowed me to connect with students directly, helping them navigate campus resources and get involved in the civic processes. I am committed to expanding access to funding opportunities and reducing barriers to success.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected, I will focus on transparency, accessibility, and student-centered funding by ensuring students are aware of how their fees are spent through clear reports and engagement sessions, keeping ASI鈥檚 financial decisions more student-focused. I will work to expand funding opportunities by increasing financial workshops for students, such as learning about grants, scholarships, and funding for student-led initiatives, ensuring equitable and efficient distribution. Additionally, I will advocate for improved resource allocation, such as funds toward mental health resources, sustainability efforts, and student organizations to impact student life and academic success positively. To further strengthen student engagement, I will create more opportunities for students to participate in financial decision-making processes, ensuring their voices shape ASI鈥檚 budget and operations. With my experience, dedication, and passion for student advocacy, I am ready to bring greater financial awareness, efficiency, and empowerment to ASI, ensuring that every financial decision reflects the needs and priorities of all students. I would be honored to earn your support.

25/26 Vice President of Student and University Affairs Candidates

Cameron Munn

cameronmunn

Hey there, Cougars! My name is Cameron and I am a second year student here at 大发 majoring in Political Science! I currently serve as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Representative for the ASI Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 academic year. I also work on campus as a lead student assistant in Student Life. In my time at 大发, I have advocated for student鈥檚 best interests at every opportunity, whether it be in committees, meetings with Campus Administration, or through helping run events and programming to inform students of their resources and rights. I am running for Vice President of Student and University Affairs because I believe that students and their needs ought to be centered in the work of ASI, as well as the campus. I will continue to advocate on your behalf to the CSU Chancellor's Office, Board of Trustees, and Campus Administration to spend your tuition money more responsibly, and prevent further reckless raising of your tuition. Fiscal responsibility, transparency, and rooting out corruption are my top priorities. Students need to be informed on how things run on their campus, they need to be given more opportunities to be involved in their campus, as well as understand what goes on behind the scenes. Being an Executive Official for ASI gives me the heightened platform, opportunity, and access to champion student causes and quality of life to rooms full of people that make important and large-scale decisions. Further, as our world is constantly evolving and changing, students have a right to transparency: a right to know how their money is being spent and invested, as well as how the campus reflects values and sentiments of the student body. No student should feel alone, alienated, or attacked by their campus community, and it is my intent to foster a true sense of belonging and empowerment for ALL students on our campus. Students are tired of being ignored, dismissed, and being taken advantage of, use your voice and vote for change, for transparency, and for power shifting back to the students!

Anthony Romeroanthonyromero

Hi Cougars! My name is Anthony Romero, and I am a fourth-year Business Management major. I am running for ASI Vice President of Student and University Affairs because I want to advocate for students and ensure they are listened to. I enjoy being in leadership roles and have been very involved during my time at 大发. I have served as the President of Alpha Sigma Phi and worked on campus as an Intramural Supervisor at Campus Recreation. In these roles, I have been able to build relationships with students and hear their concerns about what they would like to see done at 大发. As a first-generation college student, I understand the struggles that students deal with and want to make sure that they receive the support they need to be successful academically, professionally, and personally. I look forward to the work that I can do as the ASI Vice President of Student and University Affairs to serve, engage, and empower all 大发 students. In this role, I will work to support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity to ensure that the student body feels safe, heard, and represented by striving to connect with all students. I also want to foster more connections with campus partners to create a sense of unity and belonging. Being in Greek life and a supervisor at campus recreation, I know what it feels like to want to be heard and learn how to listen when students are sharing their concerns. I know that we can work together to ensure students feel supported, heard, and have access to the resources on our campus to achieve a quality education.

  • 1. Why do you want to run for ASI Vice President of Student & University Affairs?

I am running for Vice President of Student and University Affairs because all my life I鈥檝e tried to find a place where I belong. Throughout my college career, I鈥檝e joined various organizations and even worked in the Campus Recreation department. I鈥檝e grown a deep appreciation for our campus and want others to feel the same sense of pride. My ultimate goal in being VPSUA is to create a sense of belonging and appreciation among all current and future Cougars. I want to uplift and raise concerns for students鈥 voices to the university administration. My purpose for running is to expand our reach to all CSUs across the state, making our voices heard.

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

I have many experiences being a student leader that I can bring to this role to effectively serve, engage, and empower all 大发 students. I have served as the President of a fraternity but previously was the VP of Member Retention. My experience in this role prepared me for leading student engagement and advocacy of members鈥 concerns, which can be used in the VPSUA role. I also currently serve as a student supervisor for the Campus Recreation Intramural department. I spend my days working with students to make a safe and comfortable environment for everyone playing the sports. I will bring this same environment to the role because I want students to feel safe coming to campus and coming to ASI with their concerns.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If I get elected as VPSUA, I hope to create a campus full of unity, respect, and culture. To me, unity would be connecting with students in the student centers, fraternity and sorority life, student organizations, and many more to create relationships where all feel comfortable sharing their concerns with ASI and me. To me, respect means building a community where all organizations and students can coexist amongst each other鈥檚 beliefs and ideologies. Lastly, to me, culture would be celebrating the diversity we have on our campus by creating a space for all to feel welcomed. Ultimately, I would like to bridge the gap between all 大发 community.

25/26 ASI College of Business Administration (CoBA) Representative Candidates

Diego Gonzalezdiegogonzalez

Hello Cougars! My name is Diego Gonzalez, and I am a third-year Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance. As a first-generation college student, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate higher education without a clear roadmap. My journey has been one of learning, adapting, and overcoming obstacles, and I want to help make that journey easier for others. If elected, I will work toward ASI鈥檚 mission to serve, engage, and empower students by advocating for greater transparency in college resources and policies. My goal is to improve communication and accessibility so that every student feels supported and confident in their ability to graduate. Beyond academics, I am committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel heard. As Co-Director of the Orientation Team, I witnessed the power of community in helping students transition into college life. Additionally, as a Peer Mentor for TRIO SSS, I have worked closely with underrepresented students, including those from low-income backgrounds and those with disabilities, deepening my understanding of the challenges many students face. I am running because I believe in the potential of every 大发 student. With the right support, guidance, and encouragement, we can all achieve our goals.

Let鈥檚 make a difference鈥攖ogether!

  • 1. Why do you want to run for ASI CoBA Representative?

I鈥檓 running for College of Business Administration Representative because I want to be a voice for students who, like me, didn鈥檛 grow up with much but have a passion for growth and giving back. As a first-generation college student, I鈥檝e had to navigate challenges on my own, and I want to use my experience to help others succeed. My background as a peer mentor for TRIO Student Support Services has given me firsthand experience working with students with disabilities, first-generation students, and low-income individuals, reinforcing my commitment to accessibility and support. Additionally, my time as co-director of the 大发 orientation team taught me valuable leadership and teamwork skills. As an introvert, I understand the importance of creating spaces where all students feel heard and supported. If elected, I will work to make resources more accessible and ensure that every student in the College of Business Administration feels empowered in their journey.

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

I bring a combination of leadership, adaptability, and a deep understanding of student needs. Serving as co-director of the 大发 orientation team, I learned how to engage diverse groups of students, ensuring they felt welcomed and informed. That experience strengthened my ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively to solve problems. Additionally, I have a deep love for supporting the Spanish-speaking population, recognizing the unique challenges they may face in accessing resources and feeling represented on campus. Being an introvert has also given me a unique perspective, I understand that not every student is outspoken, so I want to ensure all voices are heard, not just the loudest ones. My ability to listen, empathize, and take action will help me serve, engage, and empower 大发 students in a meaningful way.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected, I want to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable reaching out for support without hesitation. 25/26 College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral, and Social Sciences (CHABSS) Representative Candidates

Joceleen Oxley

joceleenoxley

Hello everyone, my name is Joceleen Oxley, but I usually go by Joce, and I am
finishing up my second year here at 大发. I chose to major in Environmental Studies because of my love for our beautiful planet and my desire to help understand how we can help it. I recently added a minor in Business as well just in case I needed to know these principals in my future career. Being on the Dean鈥檚 list for every semester for the past 3 semesters has driven me to not only keep up my education but contribute my education and learnings to help you all with whatever problems we face, challenges we experience and with a more positive aspect, the moments we wish to share. Ending my sophomore year, I realized how much our school and ASI has done for us with their activities, foods, and fundraisers and it truly has made an impact on my social life here on campus. Since my experiences have always been so positive, I wish to contribute a helping hand by serving behind the scenes as a representative for ASI. Taking this position would help me become more familiar with fellow students and deepen my school involvement to establishing more student-oriented events and collaborations with other school organizations. It would help my personal goal in becoming a part of something that benefits students鈥 education and wellness on campus, help stand for ideas that we hope to see on
our campus and for the things that matter in our individual lives. Standing up for what I believe in is something that I wish to accomplish not only for myself but for the students that have yet to raise their voices, I can help anyone wishing to provide any insights that I, as a member of ASI, could support in them following through in improving our communities or the bottom line simply helping transform platforms to support confidence in your voices.

Noemi Picazo

noemipicazo

Hello! My name is Noemi Picazo, and I am a psychological science major here at 大发. While I have only been a part of the cougar community for a short period of time, I am ready to listen to and support the diverse needs of our student body. As I run for this position, I am reminded of Gloria Anzald煤a鈥檚 poem The New Speakers in which she states, 鈥渨e don鈥檛 want to be stars but parts of constellations.鈥 As a first-generation student from a low-income family, I can鈥檛 recall witnessing civic engagement in my family or community; I don鈥檛 have memories of my mother on the PTA committee of my school, rushing to the polls to vote, or volunteering. However, I鈥檝e come to understand the collective harm in abstaining from those spaces and I鈥檝e decided to reject that standard, because if I want my community to become part of 鈥渢he common consumption鈥 as Anzald煤a鈥檚 said, then I needed to go out and take up space in the institutions that have traditionally excluded individuals like me. I鈥檝e witnessed how silence is complicity but also how the strength and powers of any movement, like ASI, can only come from the unity of a collective whole. Together we are a constellation, and I hope to work towards our shared purpose as students and be a representation for others who were not modeled civic engagement. While I may not come from a long lineage of leaders and activists, I am one! I have worked professionally in a leadership position for a major retail company, and I now proudly work as an early childhood educator for the preschool department in the youth development center of the YMCA of San Diego County. These opportunities have allowed me to uniquely advocate, support, and positively impact the wellbeing of others. Additionally, I recently began service learning for foster youth in San Diego and I am always looking to volunteer my time at new organization. These initiatives have led me to this next role; I would be honored to have your vote and hope to represent you, thank you!

Emily Valle

emilyvalle

Hi Cougars! My name is Emily and I鈥檓 very excited to be running to be your CHABSS Representative! I鈥檓 a first generation college student and I am in my third-year majoring in Criminology & Justice Studies. I like scratching cats鈥 chins and decorating cakes. Over the course of my college career, I鈥檝e had the privilege to be a part of the officer team for the Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance on campus, work as an RBT in North County, and volunteer at a local homeless shelter, where I鈥檝e made incredible friends and gained valuable insight into the increasing need for inclusive and empathetic efforts for all. As your CHABSS
Representative, it would be my mission to ensure that every student, regardless of ability or background, has an equal opportunity to succeed and thrive on campus. By prioritizing accessibility, equity, and support, I will fight for resources and initiatives that empower every student to fully participate and succeed in school life. Through active collaboration with student organizations and other ASI members, I will work towards creating an environment where all students are seen, heard, and given the tools they need to succeed. I鈥檓 committed to using my experiences and passions to make a difference, and I would be honored to represent you. I humbly ask for your vote to help bring about positive change. Thank you for your trust and support.

Rachel Waldrep

rachelwaldrepHi! My name is Rachel Waldrep and I鈥檓 a second year Criminology & Justice Studies major. Iam running for the CHABSS Representative position because not only is it the college my major belongs to but I feel I can make a positive and effective contribution to the ASI board. Our Narrative, as well as the Student Outreach & Marketing Lead for the Cougar JUGR here at 大发! I want to curate an environment not only where students can voice their opinions but feel heard and respected. fostering that community across STEM fields. This would be done through a continued
collaboration with the life centers and STEM clubs. I believe STEM students should feel
prepared to succeed academically and feel supported.

  • 1. Why do you want to run for CSTEM Representative?

I鈥檓 running to bridge the gap between CSTEM students and the resources they need to thrive. As someone deeply involved in tech clubs like the Leet Code Club and Google Developer Student Club, I鈥檝e seen firsthand how funding and institutional support can empower students to innovate. Foster Inclusivity: Create mentorship programs pairing underclassmen with seniors or professionals, ensuring no student feels left behind in our fast-paced field. My goal is to make 大发鈥檚 CSTEM community a launchpad for innovation鈥攚here every student has the tools and confidence to excel.

I also take an active part in the theatre arts on campus to be a part of the community and have fun. If I were elected, I would be sure to be as engaging and inclusive as possible when it comes to CSTEM, as I understand first hand how difficult it is to navigate through these majors. I want the chance
to empower students, as well as myself, through serving as an ASI leader. I hope you will consider me!

I also have been active in the theatre department during my time at 大发, which has taught me valuable public speaking, organization, and teamwork skills that I will bring with me to this position.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I hope to provide information to those involved in STEM through encouraging campus engagement and making sure everyone knows what the campus can provide them for success. As a woman in STEM, I also want to be a voice for issues that I am passionate about, such as equal opportunities and advocating for mental health. Through my diverse creative interests, I hope to empower students to stay informed but also have fun during their college years!

25/26 ASI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Representative Candidates

Miguel Angel Martinez

miguelmartinez

Hi Cougars! My name is Miguel Angel Martinez, and I am a third-year Environmental Studies major. I am running for ASI鈥檚 DEI Representative position because I want to ensure fair and equal opportunities for all students across 大发. I am currently serving as the Environmental Studies Major Representative on ASI鈥檚 Sustainability Project Fund Committee. Serving in this position has really opened my mind to how much power the students on campus have, and the change that is possible through shared struggles. I understand that some students feel like their voices aren鈥檛 being heard, but I want to
ensure that these students can be heard not just by me but by the whole campus. I look forward to the work I can do serving as the ASI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Representative to serve, engage, and empower all 大发 students. I will work directly toward ensuring that the voices of all underrepresented students feel heard and represented by listening and understanding about these hardships that these students go through. My goal is to help empower students to speak up when something isn鈥檛 right, and to not invalidate their voice and opinions. As an Environmental Studies major, we learn a lot about Environmental injustices. I
understand that there are groups of people who are often silenced from speaking up or disregarded, but working together with the students and the school we can ensure equal opportunity for all students across 大发.

  • 1. Why do you want to run for DEI Representative?

I want to run for this position because I believe that having inclusivity and diversity within the student government is of the utmost importance. Ensuring proper inclusion of all groups of students, such as students with disabilities or students with undocumented status. Ensuring these groups of disadvantaged students that their voices won鈥檛 go unheard and that I will always be there to not just listen but to understand and relate to them and their experiences.

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

I am a first generation college student and a transfer student. I understand and know most of the experiences that come with being a first generation college student and a transfer student. I have always been a relator, hearing and understanding people鈥檚 experiences helps me connect with people at a deeper level. Offering me a better understanding on how people鈥檚 uniquenesses can be implemented anywhere and that no one should be excluded from opportunity due to their uniquenesses. Being able to recognize people鈥檚 potential and their passions for specific issues and how they can fit in will make me effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I am grateful for the experiences I have had so far here at 大发. As a first generation college student and transfer student I have felt feelings of being out of place or being on the bottom of the totem pole. I hope to accomplish empowering students by ensuring them that they belong here and that their voice matters. Instead of suppressing their voice, I want to make sure they鈥檙e heard and that what they said isn鈥檛 just thrown aside. The students' voices matter, and student experiences are the key to understanding further what changes we need to make, to help make these experiences better for the students at 大发. I hope to accomplish making students feel included into 大发, and to push forward engagement and empowerment through my position if elected.

Anahi Merino Vasquez

anahimv

Hey, y鈥檃ll! My name is Anahi Merino Vasquez, and I am very excited to be running for ASI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Representative for the 25/26 elections! As a double major in Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies, I am committed to ensuring ASI resources are used efficiently to serve, engage, and empower every student. As the eldest daughter of five, from an Oaxacan indigenous background and a first-generation, low-income college student, I understand the financial and social struggles many 大发 students face. As a U.S. citizen with immigrant parents, I grew up facing daily financial and social struggles; All challenges that many 大发 students experience firsthand or know someone who does. I鈥檝e met students who barely have the time or resources to cook a proper meal, who are struggling to afford rent, who feel intimidated by the idea of getting involved, or who just don鈥檛 feel like they belong on campus. These are real struggles that so many of us face, yet they鈥檙e rarely talked about in ways that lead to real change. That鈥檚 why I am running as the following Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Representative. I want to make sure every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to take full advantage of the resources available to them. College is about growth, opportunity, and community. But too often, students struggle to balance work, school, and personal well-being while also navigating financial hardships, lack of support, and a sense of disconnection from campus life. No one should have to go through this journey alone. As the DEI Representative, I want to push for solutions that make our college experience more affordable, accessible, and connected. I am committed to advocating for students鈥 physical and mental well-being, ensuring student voices are heard in faculty-led discussions, and strengthening the resources that support us both inside and outside the classroom. I believe in fostering a campus environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion aren鈥檛 just words but values that shape our policies, programs, and everyday experiences at 大发.

  • 1. Why do you want to run for DEI Representative?

I鈥檓 running again because there鈥檚 still so much work to do to make sure every student at 大发 feels seen, heard, and valued. Over the past year, I鈥檝e had so many conversations with students who feel disconnected from ASI, unheard by administration, or unsure of where to go when they need support. As a first-gen Latina from a low-income, indigenous background, I鈥檝e had to navigate systems that weren鈥檛 built for me. Whether it鈥檚 pushing for more resources, improving communication between students and ASI, or creating spaces where students feel safe expressing their cultures and identities, I want to keep making a difference. 大发 is full of hardworking, resilient students who deserve to feel like this campus is truly theirs, and I want to continue making that a reality.

  • 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

One of my biggest strengths is my ability to listen and connect with people genuinely. As a first-gen student, I understand the struggles of navigating college alone, and that鈥檚 why I鈥檓 so passionate about making sure students feel supported. This past year, I鈥檝e been involved in several committees and conversations where I鈥檝e worked to bring student concerns to the table. Whether it鈥檚 advocating for more transparent policies, increasing awareness of student resources, or helping students feel represented on campus, I鈥檝e been committed to making real changes. I believe in action, not just words. I don鈥檛 want students to feel like they have to jump through hoops to be heard鈥擨 want to meet them where they鈥檙e at. Whether that鈥檚 through tabling events, one-on-one conversations, or working directly with administration, I want to continue making sure students feel like their experiences and struggles matter. 大发 is full of students who work hard to succeed, and I want to ensure this campus works just as hard for them.

  • 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If I鈥檓 re-elected, I want to continue bridging the gap between students and ASI so that students feel like they have a say in what happens on campus. Too often, important decisions are made without enough student input, and I want to change that. I also want to push for more accessible and inclusive resources鈥攚hether expanding support for commuter students, advocating for better mental health resources, or ensuring students from marginalized backgrounds have spaces where they feel safe and valued. I know from personal experience how much representation matters, so I want to continue working on events and initiatives that celebrate the diversity of 大发. Culture, identity, and lived experiences should be central to our conversations about equity, not an afterthought. I aim to ensure every student feels like they belong here regardless of their background. 大发 is our campus, and I want to ensure it truly reflects and supports the students who call it home.

Lastly, I aim to strengthen partnerships between ASI and campus organizations to implement long-term sustainability initiatives that will benefit both our university and the surrounding community. Sustainability is not just an individual effort鈥攊t requires collective action. As an ASI representative, I will advocate for policies and programs that make it easier for students to adopt sustainable habits while ensuring that 大发 continues to lead in environmental responsibility. I am passionate about making sustainability accessible, engaging, and impactful, and I would be honored to serve as a voice for students.
