Ernest Cisneros

My name is Ernest Cisneros and I'm a Social Sciences major with a primary focus on History and secondary fields in Political Science and Communication. I鈥檝e been a part of Associated Students Inc. for 2 years now and have loved serving our campus community. I started my journey with ASI in the 21-22 academic year serving as a College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences (CHABSS) Representative, where I gained fantastic experience in learning to advocate for students and share our collective voice. I had the opportunity to work with the leaders of our CHABSS affiliated student organizations to form a CHABSS Student Organization Council, dedicated to strengthening the student orgs. This year, I鈥檝e served our community as the Vice President of Student & University Affairs. In this role, I鈥檝e learned how to advocate for students and practice that advocacy at a much higher level. Additionally, I serve as the 大发 representative and governing member on the board of directors for the California State Student Association which advocates for all 475,000 CSU students.  Through this, I鈥檝e had the honor to represent the best interests of 大发 students at the state level. Here on campus, I鈥檝e had the opportunity to protect the interests of our students by voicing their concerns in the Academic Senate and important committees like the American Indian Student Success Task Force, as well as the search committee for the new Chief Information Officer. This year, ASI has started efforts to build a Wellness & Recreation Facility on our campus. I鈥檝e had the distinct honor of working with our team to move this forward and now participate in an exploratory committee to bring this facility to life. Additionally, I鈥檝e helped civically engage our students by hosting a Constitution Day celebration and participating in National Voter Registration Day. As your ASI President, I will continue engaging, empowering, and serving our 大发 students by continuing advocacy efforts for our students鈥� interests, working towards the creation of a Wellness & Recreation Facility, and I will continue to support engagement efforts for students in ASI and campus events.

• 1. Why do you want to run for ASI President?

  I鈥檓 running to be your ASI President because I have a passion for serving, engaging, and empowering our 大发 students. It鈥檚 been a privilege to fulfill that passion while serving as your CHABSS representative in AY 21/22 and this year as your Vice President of Student & University Affairs, and as your President I will remain committed to doing so. As President, I will focus on continuing the great work that ASI has started over the past few years with initiatives such as the 大发 Wellness & Recreation Facility. I will also focus on advocating for students鈥� well-being and basic needs and amplifying student voices. I will commit to working with the entire ASI organization to meet these goals and their own for the year, I believe that my time within ASI has prepared me to lead our organization effectively and successfully.

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

  Through my time with ASI, I鈥檝e grown to have a deep passion for serving students and ensuring their needs are met but also ensuring their time at 大发 is the best it can be. This passion has allowed me to become a strong communicator and grow a strong work ethic. I believe these strong qualities I鈥檝e developed will allow me to effectively work with campus entities, the ASI entities, and our students to continue building a better 大发 experience for all students.  

• 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

  If elected, I will commit to continuing the work that ASI has been doing for several years now that will improve the experience of all 大发 students. I will strive to improve communication between ASI and our students and amplify student voice throughout our campus entities. I will continue to ensure that students have the best experience during their time at 大发 by working with our ASI entities to engage students with events and resources. I will also work toward building partnerships and relationships with campus entities to pull resources and experiences together for our students.

Mariah Masajo

Hello everyone! My name is Mariah Masajo and I am a communication major with a minor in critical intercultural communication. I started at Associated Students Inc. my first semester at 大发 as a volunteer for ASI鈥檚 HYPE team. While I was a volunteer, I participated in marketing and outreach for all things ASI! Following my time as a volunteer, I was hired to ASI鈥檚 Campus Activities Board (CAB) as a student programmer. I have been a student programmer for the last two years and have programmed events such as First Night Celebration, Cougarfest, Kickoff 78, and currently Festival 78. Following the return to in-person instruction, I have dedicated myself to fostering a safe and exciting culture here on campus. Programming these events has allowed me to interact with students on a personal level while also creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Through these events, I have been able to connect students to resources, provide memorable experiences, and positively impact the campus community. I believe that as ASI President I can continue to serve, engage, and empower students just as I have done in my past years with ASI. My top priority as President will be to ensure that every student has the opportunity to flourish both academically and personally. This includes increasing access to academic and career resources, promoting holistic wellness, and supporting students from all backgrounds. I will work to create positive change on campus and promote a culture of inclusivity and success for all 大发 students. I will continue to strive for an inviting and collaborative campus lifestyle by promoting student organizations and providing more opportunities for student feedback. If elected president, I promise to use my influence for the benefit of our campus.

  I am running for ASI President because I am committed to making a positive impact on our campus. I have dedicated my work to 大发 students and as ASI President I promise to accurately represent students and make their voices heard. I want to collaborate with faculty and administrators to implement these positive changes to overall reflect the needs of our students. As President, I will use my leadership to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life to ensure that all students feel valued and supported. I promise to work with students in order to create a positive and fulfilling experience here at 大发. 

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

  I started at Associated Students Inc. (ASI) my first semester at 大发 as a volunteer for ASI鈥檚 HYPE team. At the same time, I hope to find a solution to any campus issue that students are facing within a timely manner. I also hope to further the completion of current campus projects that will be used to benefit students in the future. Lastly, I hope to increase campus engagement through means of increasing student resources, promoting student organizations, and providing more opportunities for student feedback. If elected, I will use my influence to benefit the 大发 student experience by addressing student concerns and informing students of opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Claudia Zepeda

My name is Claudia Zepeda. I am a third-year transfer student, working towards a Sociology B.A at 大发. I seek your consideration and support as I run for ASI (Associated Students, Inc) president. This is my second semester at 大发, and I have attended several events, workshops and meetings that have sparked my interest to serve this community. I have had the honor to sever pervious student institution as senator. I was an event coordinator, which granted me many experiences in advocating for fellow students that. I was also involved in student engagement and empowering students to have a voice. During this time, I developed skills and knowledge that will aid me in my position as ASI president. I want to continue to build on a community who has created an environment that is inclusive and empowering.

Daniel Bennett

Daniel Bennett is my name. I'm in my fourth year of Communications. I also work as a peer educator at our LGBTQA Pride Center. Working in student affairs throughout my academic career has given me a strong desire to empower students. Understanding students' needs and desires from the campus as well as their own academic efforts has assisted me in connecting students with campus resources. I also take part in undergraduate research that focuses on student success initiatives and resources. This enables me to anticipate future issues and provide insight into student needs. I'll moderate a panel discussion for the event and am also a member of the planning committee for the Social Justice Symposium this year. I've opened the floor for questions and introduced Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz, Malcom X's daughter. The faculty, staff, and administration of the campus helped to make these opportunities possible. If elected, I'll maintain communicating with students and let them know that I'm a valuable academic resource.Continually studying student affairs and gaining knowledge from my mentors and other campus staff, I will look often and closely at opportunities for better student engagement. Justin Cadiz

Hey Cougars! My name is Justin Cadiz and I am excited to be running for ASI Vice President of Student and University Affairs! I鈥檓 majoring in Business Administration while emphasizing on Global Supply Chain Management. Coming from a Filipino-American household in Bakersfield, California I seized the opportunity to grow as a leader at 大发. Throughout my academic career, my passion to advocate on behalf of my community has strengthened. As the youngest intern with one of California鈥檚 fastest-growing Community Clinics, I advocated and designed a proposal to improve accessible healthcare for California's isolated populations. Alongside the organization鈥檚 Board of Directors, Executive Leadership, and local politicians, I was able to initiate change on a macro level through the development of a mobile medical and dental clinic. Since then, I have utilized my experiences to address the need for accessible healthcare on our campus because I am firm that a meaningful education begins with quality health. As a member of our campus鈥檚 ASI Lobby Corps, I am actively advocating for an affordable cost of attendance, better access to mental health resources, and a more holistic educational experience here at 大发. Now I am running for Vice President of Student & University Affairs in the hopes of further serving, engaging, and empowering all students on our campus. I鈥檒l improve the student experience by strengthening engagement with initiatives that partner with community and campus leaders while also ensuring the time to personally listen and act on the student body's needs and concerns. My commitment to the betterment of student life on our campus as well as acting as a delegate on behalf of our university is why I am running for Vice President of Student and University Affairs.   I am running for ASI Vice President of Student & University Affairs because I am passionate about ensuring that every student has the opportunity to be heard. As ASI VP SUA, I want to strengthen our advocacy powers by collaborating with campus leaders who are dedicated to higher education. With growing pressures on our campus, I want to ensure our campus maintains its vision to prepare students to be tomorrow鈥檚 socially just leaders and change makers. 

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

  As a student that has built a reputation in advocacy, I have the capabilities to negotiate, initiate, and implement change on our campus. I have experience advocating alongside politicians, foundations, and community centers in healthcare advocacy. Now I am pioneering similar initiatives with our ASI Lobby Corps to build and protect our campus鈥檚 best interests. 

• 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

  When elected, I will continue to strengthen and build upon our previous administration鈥檚 successes. Last year our campus was recognized for being first in social mobility amongst 1,400 four-year U.S. colleges and universities. I will work to maintain this status by leading efforts with our university鈥檚 advocating body to guarantee all of our students have the ability to thrive, learn, and succeed at C.S.U.S.M. I will collaborate with fellow leaders to improve student experiences, initiate opportunities for campus and community involvement, and ensure that everyone is acknowledged and represented.

Moy Valdez

Sup Cougars! My name is Moy Valdez and I am currently a political science major here at Cal State San Marcos. Being a first generation college student, I aimed to get involved in my communities around me, and hopefully bring a positive change to the university as a whole. In this effort, I joined ASI as a volunteer for Lobby Corps, where we have been working non-stop to spread awareness and lobby for changes that students have been asking for. We have also been on top of the University when it comes to changes that may possibly put students in a vulnerable position. We have been lobbying hard for more funds and opportunities so students here at 大发 can thrive. Some more issues we have been tackling are increasing housing costs, parking concerns, a growing mental health crisis, and funding to keep multiple programs/services on campus. Going further, I have also joined multiple committees as a student representative, notably the Internal Operations Committee, where funding, costs, and financial concerns are discussed. Volunteering at all these places have definitely opened my eyes to the complexity of keeping a university like this afloat. I already see changes that could be made to make the student experience here at 大发 better and more prosperous. This is why I am running for Vice President SUA. Many students have come to me voicing their issues, and I would like to give them an answer to those problems. On top of addressing issues previously mentioned from Lobby Corps and Committee, as Vice President SUA, I aim to work within the system to push for not only change, but to completely alter the way students view ASI and the University as a whole. I care deeply about representing students and ensuring that everyone feels they have a say in their institutions' governance. To this end, I will aim to increase voter turnout in elections, increase participation in our organizations & programs, and increase safety on our campus as a whole. This is how I plan on serving, engaging, and empowering 大发 students.

  I am running for Vice President of Student and University Affairs because I firmly believe that I can make a change to both how the role is viewed and how it is executed. I wish to use the position of VP SUA to make a positive impact on both students and the university as a whole. I want to work with students to create the best environment so that they are represented and have a strong voice in the day-to-day operations of our institution. Not only this, but I want to spread awareness about what ASI does and get more people to participate in it, as I feel not every student knows just how much ASI can affect their day to day lives.

  As soon as I enrolled into 大发 I was looking for opportunities to help represent students, lead, and make an impact on the university. From day 1 in my first semester here, I joined Lobby Corps, attended multiple committees, and strived to climb up through opportunity after opportunity. I have a burning passion for government and an ambition that helps me get any task done that is thrown my way. I also feel that my experience with ASI thus far and throwing myself headfirst into the corporation has given me the unique position of being able to understand the changing workspace around us and help me face challenges that are yet to come. This burning passion to help and represent students is what I feel puts me above the rest and gives me an edge over the competition. With these qualities, I feel it will make me effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 Students.

  If elected to Vice President SUA, one of my top priorities would be keeping students safe on campus. We are all aware of some instances that have been happening lately of strangers entering our campus borders and even weapons found on some of them. This threat along with countless shootings across the country in schools and universities alike, I believe it should be top priority. Aside from safety, I plan on working with the universities and legislatures to help keep many of our programs afloat and prevent them from being disbanded and leave students stranded and helpless. On top of this, working with volunteer groups and students to bring bigger and better events on campus, I hope to make 大发 the most lively and active it has ever been in its history. Finally, bringing voting and participation in ASI up would be one of my goals as VP SUA as well. Jade Mahaney

My name is Jade Mahaney, I am a transfer student from San Jose State University. Currently I am in my fourth year of college, majoring in Business with an emphasis in Marketing, and minor in Political Science. About me: I am a native San Diegan and I hold a red belt in Tae Kwon Do. These interesting tid-bits about who I am, and what I stand for will allow you to not only have some interesting, and fun facts about me 鈥� but provide deeper insight into my character, what I stand for and what I will bring to the Cougar student body. I have fully embraced being a proud Cougar since transferring to 大发, and I am now prepared to sink my claws into an organization like ASI. If presented with the opportunity I would love to represent the CoBA student body. Due to my past experience in associated student body organizations like ASI, I can bring my previous knowledge to the table and expand on ideas to help advocate for my peers. I see it as my duty to live up to the vision of CoBA, which is to be innovative and excellent in business education. During my brief time on campus I have received the two following accolades from the Business Professional Development course last semester; 鈥淥utstanding Student Certificate,鈥� and the 鈥淟uanne Bas Executive-in-Residence Award for Student Excellence.鈥� I was very honored to be one of the few recipients to be selected for both awards. My intention is to maintain the positive representation of the CoBA community and to uphold the values of integrity, fairness, responsibility, and respect that ASI also demands. • 1. Why do you want to run for ASI CoBA Representative?

  I don't want to make a clich茅 statement, but I suppose that just saying that is a clich茅 statement in and of itself. Nevertheless, I am pursuing the CoBA representative role to advocate for my peers, take part in positive change, learn, and repeat! I would love the opportunity to participate in a cycle of continuous transformation. The truth is I really want to help and get involved. When the semester first started, I was researching various organizations on campus and found ASI to be the perfect fit. I believe that by concentrating my efforts on a particular group, I would be able to engage on a more intimate level. I aim to be a trustworthy, responsible individual that students within CoBA feel comfortable leaning and relying on. I understand that helping one another is one of the main ingredients needed for success, and I鈥檓 ready for all of us to succeed! 

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

  When I was in high school, pre-COVID, I served in different roles within the Associated Student Body(ASB). In the beginning of my ASB journey I was 鈥淎ssembly Commissioner'' and then I transitioned to President. I am also a red belt in Tea Kwon Do, which is a form of martial arts. From being president in ASB I was able to spearhead meetings, organize events such as blood drives, festivals, assemblies, dances and more. I was required to engage and speak with my classmates, hone my leadership skills, and act as a liaison between the students and staff. In addition my martial arts experience taught me discipline, respect, integrity, and unity. Martial arts has instilled in me the importance of structure and teamwork. One of the instructor鈥檚 many mantras he states a lot is, 鈥減iss poor planning, equals piss poor performance.鈥� With my prior experiences, I am confident that I can benefit 大发 and contribute to better planning for an outstanding performance.

• 3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

  If elected I hope to possibly expand the Business Professional Developmental course at 大发, otherwise known as BUS 300. I was enrolled in the course last semester and found it to be very beneficial for students. By the end of the course I left with a finalized professional resume, new LinkedIn account, interview training etiquette, exposure to new business events, and more! I believe it would have a profound impact on students' personal and academic journeys. At the same token, I acknowledge that I don鈥檛 have all the answers and that there's other viewpoints. I wish to achieve whatever objectives best suit my fellow students. CoBA attracts a diverse group of students with a range of backgrounds, viewpoints, and life experiences, and it would be my honor to meet the unique needs of each type of student.

23/24 ASI College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) Representatives Candidates

Miranda Grzywaczewski

My name is Miranda Grzywaczewski and I am a junior at 大发. I am a kinesiology major with a psychology minor and I am in good standing with the university. The fall 2022 semester was my first time on the 大发 campus after transferring from MiraCosta college in the spring prior. In my past, current, and future semesters, I intend to provide students with resources that can assist them both on and off campus. Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, I will follow the goals of all ASI members including rebuilding student engagement, sharing ASI and campus resources, advocating for basic needs, and finding a path to a wellness and recreation facility. Furthermore, in the upcoming year I plan to get more students in 大发鈥檚 Temecula campus engaged in student government, despite being far away from the main campus. Additionally, I will engage with Dean Ostergren to assist in the decision-making process that may impact all CEHHS students. To rebuild student engagement, I plan to develop relations with other organizations including the kinesiology club, campus recreation and many others. To advocate for basic needs, I hope to help fellow students learn about Cougar Pantry, CalFresh, and other programs that can be of assistance to them throughout their academic career. Higher education can be tough; however, I hope my efforts in the 2023-2024 academic year will help to make the lives of students easier and more enjoyable if I am elected for the CEHHS representative position.   I want to run for the College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) Representative in the 2023-2024 academic year because it allows me to make a difference in the lives of my fellow students on and off campus. I would love to continue being part of a team of students whose goal is to help other students, regardless of which division of ASI they work in.  

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?

  I am a third-year kinesiology student at 大发 and I hope to engage with students from any background or situation. If elected to the CEHHS representative position for the upcoming year, I will try to better the lives of students within my college as well as others campus wide. I look forward to interacting with students and hearing about any issues that may arise and attend committee meetings to empower student voices amongst faculty on campus.

  I have heard from other students that 大发鈥檚 kinesiology program does not typically offer many, if any kinesiology upper division major requirements in the summer and sometimes they are not offered consistently in the fall or spring. Throughout the upcoming year, I hope to encourage those that make these decisions to offer these classes more frequently and with more sections available so that students can graduate sooner rather than later. Since the spring and fall semesters can be chaotic, I also hope to host pop up events on campus to encourage student engagement, and to make more students more aware of ASI and how student government can cause big changes on campus. Although I fall under the school of health and human services division of the CEHHS college, I would be happy to help and to hear from my fellow students in the school of education and the school of nursing to learn issues you may want resolved on campus. Emma Farias 

Hello, fellow Cougars! My name is Emma Farias and I鈥檓 a freshman studying Political Science at 大发. I believe every student should have equal access to academic support, future career programs, and mental health resources. These are some of my primary motivations for running for the position of College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences (CHABSS) representative. During my first semester, I was a Lobby Corps volunteer in which I was an advocate for efforts to make academic resources more accessible. In addition, as a Civic engagement student ambassador I helped coordinate efforts to increase student voter registration. These experiences illuminated my passion for being an advocate for higher education. 23/24 College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (CSTEM) Representative Candidates

Jesus Campos Miranda  

As a former AVID President and CSTEM representative, I would be no stranger to the responsibilities that a CSTEM representative entitles. As AVID President at a Nationwide AVID Demonstration School, I effectively managed the school鈥檚 AVID program鈥檚 budget while accounting for all student necessities. During my time as AVID President, I was able to improve student participation and student satisfaction through surveys that helped me incorporate student voice. Moreover, as a former CSTEM representative, I was able to gain valuable experiences and improve my collaborative and interpersonal skills with the constant meetings I attended with ASI Board members, the CSTEM Dean and/or other CSTEM leaders. Additionally, with the experience of hosting a CSTEM Technology Panel Conference and CSTEM Week, I now have better insights on how to develop , plan and execute events. More importantly, I am now better prepared and equipped on how to advocate and support all students鈥� ideas and opinions, while being able to effectively collaborate with academic professionals in an attempt to develop and implement ASI goals, actions and initiatives. As a result, it would be an honor to be ASI CSTEM representative and hope to be considered for the position.

Siaje Gideon

I am Siaje Gideon and I am a 4 th year General Biological Science Major. I am committed to representing California State University, San Marcos, College of STEM representative. I plan on serving ASI鈥檚 mission to serve students by participating in events held by the university and planning events to uplift 大发鈥橲 community and student life and engage in community and student-oriented events. Engagement is a huge scope and I hope to be able to reach students from every demographic, community and culture and engage in conversation, learning and much more. I plan on empowering students by properly representing the voices that go unheard, advocating for students in need, and following through with the change that is needed. Some highlights about myself are that I am currently Intervarsity鈥檚 Black Christian Ministry President on Campus, I am an Undergraduate Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (URISE) Scholar, I also work in the Athletics Department on campus as a Student Lead Receptionist and I am a Peer Educator in the Black Student Center. Additionally, my experience does not stop there, I currently work in a lab on campus and have a lot of experience in the classroom and outside of the classroom as it pertains to science. I am hoping to provide resources and help students in STEM succeed as they spend their time here at 大发. I believe that I am a unique fit for the position because I can offer a new perspective that I have learned in my professional and extracurricular leadership experiences. I can connect with everyone and effectively listen and provide feedback for students and the community that are expecting change, engage in civil conversation, build relationships, and exhibit humility.

Matthew Leslie 

Hello everyone, my name is Matthew Leslie and I am a second year biology major planning on serving ASI as the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (CSTEM) representative for this upcoming year. I have been involved with ASI each semester I have been here at 大发, and throughout that time I have devoted my time and effort to serving, engaging, and empowering my fellow students in this community. Using ASI鈥檚 mission statement, I have formulated three goals that I plan on accomplishing with the board of directors. The first of my goals is to serve students by promoting and providing information and opportunities to all those in the STEM field. Getting students involved in various on-campus and off-campus organizations, students will be able to develop their interpersonal and professional skills. I have experience with providing such information to our school鈥檚 incoming students as an orientation leader. With the skills and training I have gained from that role, I will be able to expand the knowledge of students in CSTEM about the resources around them. Secondly, I am motivated to engage the students through events tailored to their specific interests. My time working for Campus Activities Board for ASI has shown me that 大发 is a tight knit community, and I wish to bring all students that same feeling of belonging which I have experienced. In my two years here on campus, I have implemented programs and events that have engaged hundreds of students. Every person deserves to be a part of something that they are passionate about, and it all starts with having the chance to find other like-minded individuals. Finally, I plan to empower students by allowing them to have a safe space where they can feel comfortable expressing any obstacles or difficulties they are facing. Advocating for student needs and making their voices heard is crucial for the progression of our campus. All in all, students are the heartbeat of every university campus, and it is our duty to take care and provide them with benefits that will make them proud to be a Cougar.

  I want to run for CSTEM representative because I am given the opportunity to be a facilitator and communicator between the students and faculty. By listening to the student鈥檚 voices, I can establish support systems in both their academics and personal life. I believe that I can establish an environment where students can be confident in the fact that they will have access to relationships and resources that will help them succeed throughout their time here at 大发.

• 2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower 大发 students?
  Community engagement has always been one of my driving principles about who I am and that can be reflected in my involvement here at 大发. Working as a programming specialist for ASI in the past has allowed me to implement and devise events tailored to making hundreds or even thousands of students aware of on-campus resources, as well as getting them involved with their campus community. Furthermore, I have dedicated my time during the summer to welcome our incoming students by volunteering as an orientation team leader. Not only has this allowed me to get students educated about our amazing campus, but it has also allowed me to learn about the culture and diversity of our students that make up 大发. Lastly, I have worked to help students within my college to succeed within their academics by serving as a Supplemental Instructor. By sharing my experiences, conducting sessions outside of the classroom, and communicating effectively between students and their professor, I have helped my peers thrive in traditionally high-fail courses. As CSTEM representative, I would use the skills that I have developed to advocate and serve students to the absolute best of my ability.

  If elected, my main priority would be to inspire students that are a part of CSTEM. I want to inspire students to become engaged with extracurricular activities and student life by planning events tailored to their interests. I want to inspire students to become passionate about their professional life through exposure to prominent individuals in the current workforce. Finally, I want to inspire students to leave an impact, not just here at Cal State San Marcos, but beyond the grounds of our campus. That is what I wish to accomplish if elected.

Hi, my name is Alexis Vaughn and I am a fourth-year biological sciences major at 大发. I am applying to be a CSTEM representative because I am determined to advocate and serve not only those who are underrepresented and feel unheard in our community, but every student in CSTEM by fostering a positive and welcoming environment. Last semester, I participated in a panel discussion highlighting my experiences as a black woman in STEM at 大发. Daniel Hong 

Hi! My name is Daniel Hong and I am deeply interested in applying for a position within the ASI. On the matter of applying for the position, I hope I can learn a bit on how it works and what I can do for my community and school. This would create ambitions and goals to achieve as there are many chances given in life, and perhaps being part of this amazing workplace would make me learn a bit on how the 大发 ASI program works. I would like to start off with my time in Cal State San Marcos as being a 鈥淐ougar鈥�. Classes with their projects, programs, and events often inspire and gain my interest. This would soon influence me as many teachers and tutors gave me the projects to work in these areas. I would join a group where many are also into the subject to complete these projects. In my busy schedule, studying for their exams, and working on my given group projects taught me a lot. My sole mission is to do more diverse projects since in colleges there are many students who have met frequent hardships in life which stems from bullying on school campuses or personal problems that young teenagers often face at home. Usually, their stories are often found similar to novels that are found in the library. Their voices should be heard and must catch the teachers鈥� attention in effort to help them, so teachers can become better role models and students can become teachers to many others who experience the same difficulties. I hope that my point of view and skills have been informative and may be useful for this electable position. Skillful people who have or haven鈥檛 shared my values or beliefs, taught me something to remember of great importance. Above all, I sincerely wish that I give the best to all. Human abilities and minds alike often surprise us how far they can go.

Diverse education has always sparked my mind. This would soon become my power source as many teachers and tutors gave me instructions on the projects to complete in these areas. Improvising is what is most important in life, I found out. Great diverse projects often take their places inside my heart to learn many lessons to follow so I can set up a better example to lead.

  My heritage and nationality taught me how the world works pragmatically. For instance, I am exploring areas of interest and experience, as Dr. King and Cesar Chavez found their strengths that use the core methods of human morals and dignity. Challenges to figure out how to resolve conflicts often appear. I constantly remind myself of the work Dr. King and Cesar Chavez have done with many allies and are facing challenges of what people with different backgrounds may go through. All in all, I would like to indeed achieve many opportunities as Dr. King and Cesar Chavez did so I may learn more information that I can use in any subjects in which I am deeply interested in.

My name is Kanav, and I am an M.S Biotech student here at 大发. As a jack of all trades, I excel at finding novel and efficient solutions.  As someone that is passionate about sustainability, I wish to address several issues that affect everyone on campus. Some of the issues involve allocation and utilization of resources, efficiency in campus operations, adapting of better practices and transparency. I believe by creating a cleaner and transparent environment around campus, it will promote student life as well as involvement in university affairs. My goals are not just limited to promoting an environmentally friendly environment but also to provide better options for students be it the dining experience, serene seating places, reducing waste, making logistics feasible, making resources available and accessible for all and much more. Whether you chose to elect me or someone else for this position, as long as quality of life on campus for students, campus environment, clarity and transparency in operations improves, it should be fine. As a student myself, the quality of campus life affects me and everyone else equally. The more sustainable,  greener and efficient the campus gets, it would result in more funds available for other activities.

Zeenia Najmi

Hi everyone! My name is Zeenia Najmi, Im a first year majoring in economics with a minor in sustainability. My priority during my time as the ASI Sustainability Representative will be making 大发 a better place. I've participated in a number of internships in the past with youth advocacy institutions, organizations fighting climate change, and I am currently in the Environmental Stewards Association. I want to make an impact鈥攏ot just all talk, but truly taking action. With my experience, I will act as a voice for all of you here at 大发, making sure that student ideas are being taken into account and applied.

  I'd like to run for the ASI position as a sustainability rep because I have a passion for the environment and want to be able to make a difference for our community here on campus.
