- What are the admissions requirements for the TBSN?

- Is there a supplemental application for the TBSN program?There is no supplemental application.
- Can you evaluate my transcripts prior to me applying for the TBSN program?Unfortunately, no. However, California Community college equivalent courses can be found at . Select by 鈥渕ajor鈥 and 鈥淣ursing.鈥
- Can I attend the TBSN program part-time?Unfortunately, no. The TBSN is a full-time highly rigorous program. The program courses are sequenced and can only be taken in order according to the TBSN Freshman Plan of Study or Transfer Plan of Study.
- Can I apply to the TBSN program if I have a criminal record?It depends. All admitted TBSN students must have a clear background check and drug screen in order to enroll. If a Criminal Record Exemption or expungement is possible and can be completed prior to being admitted, then it is possible to be accepted to the program.
- Do I have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to join the TBSN program?
No. Applicants to the School of Nursing programs do not need to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 upon admission and prior to enrollment. This could change in the future and to continue in the program vaccination would be required if stated by our clinical partners.
- Do you admit for Spring?Unfortunately, no. The TBSN program only begins in Fall terms.
- Are there physical expectations for the TBSN program?Yes. All School of Nursing students must meet the requirements outlined in the Nursing Student Health & Clinical Compliance policy, Fitness for Clinical Practice policy, and will be asked to complete a Health and Physical Exam annually prior to clinical placements.
- Can I work full time in the TBSN program?The most successful TBSN students do not work full-time. The coursework and clinical placements are demanding and take between 30 鈥 40 hours per week.
- Are there prerequisite courses for the TBSN program?Yes. Applicants must complete the Pre-Nursing Core to be accepted to the TBSN program.
- Can I complete Pre-Nursing Core courses virtually or online?It depends. The science prerequisites with a lab component (i.e. Anatomy/Physiology sequence, Microbiology, and I/O Chemistry) must be completed in person except for coursework that was completed between January 2020 to May 2021.
- Does transfer coursework expire?Not usually. As long as coursework for the Pre-Nursing Core courses were completed at an accredited institution(s) and met the course equivalency standards at the time the units are usually accepted.
- Can I switch my major to the TBSN if I am a student at Cal State San Marcos?Unfortunately, no. The TBSN is a 鈥渄irect-entry鈥 admission program meaning students can only enroll in the program if they are new First-Time Freshman or Transfers. Current or continuing Cal State San Marcos students may want to consider the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) to add a Bachelor of Science in Nursing once graduated with a first bachelor鈥檚 degree.
- Is the TBSN more expensive than other majors at Cal State San Marcos?Yes. TBSN students pay for Fall/Spring semesters, but also have two required Summer semesters. There are also Startup/Clinical Placement costs such as scrubs, equipment, etc.
