Canvas-Microsoft Teams Integration

One-Click Integration

The one-click Canvas-Microsoft Teams integration enables any instructor to incorporate Teams Classroom into their Canvas course. Canvas and Teams rosters will sync daily, so instructors will not have to manually create and maintain the Team membership. This integration also allows instructors to create Teams Meetings from within Canvas, and students will be able to see and join the meeting from their Canvas course without the need for sharing meeting links.  

Possible issues:

  • Some students may not be automatically added to the Team and may need to be added manually
  • The Teams Grades and Assignments DO NOT sync with Canvas and should not be utilized to avoid confusion

Why use Teams in Canvas?

Improved Synchronous/ Asynchronous Communication and Collaboration

Microsoft Teams classroom adds robust state-of-the art chat, voice, and video communication capabilities to your Canvas course.Teams also provides a space for students and instructors to collaborate on documents.

Student Group Collaboration Space

Teams in Canvas provides a space for students to work on group assignments or other student text/video/document collaboration (similar to tools like Discord). With Teams, students will not have to create a social media account to access this space, which promotes equity of access.

Seamless Online Meetings

Teams meetings in Canvas allow instructors to access attendance, transcribed and captioned recordings, and any other material in one place to reduce instructor workload and platform confusion.

How to Enable Canvas-Teams Integration

Teams Classroom

This integration allows educators to create a Teams Classroom for any of their Canvas courses using the roster information.

 

Teams Meetings

This integration allows educators to utilize the video conferencing feature of Teams to create meetings for their classes and add entire class roster to the meeting with one click.

 

OneDrive

The OneDrive integration allows instructors to create course content, complete assignments, and collaborate by using OneDrive and Microsoft 365, all without leaving Canvas.
