MANAGEMENT
Over the last few years, CoBA has developed a comprehensive program of entrepreneurship. It is built upon the BSBA degree option in entrepreneurship and supported by co-curricular activities that provide students with related hands-on experience and access to the entrepreneurship and venture community of San Diego County. Earlier CoBA newsletters have shared examples of these activities including several recent innovation competitions where CoBA students have won awards. It is important that we share additional information about our program.
The mission of the CoBA Entrepreneurship Program is to equip students with the entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary to successfully launch, manage, and scale new ventures. The program is designed to foster creativity, innovation, and leadership in entrepreneurship, with a particular emphasis on experiential learning. Through this hands-on approach, students not only gain practical business insights, they also actively contribute to both regional and global entrepreneurial ecosystems.
This mission aligns closely with the overarching goals of the 大发 Strategic Plan, which emphasizes fostering social mobility, student success, and community engagement. 大发鈥檚 role as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and its dedication to promoting social mobility are reflected in the program鈥檚 commitment to offering inclusive opportunities for students of diverse backgrounds to thrive as entrepreneurs. Additionally, the program supports the university's initiative to cultivate innovation and leadership in a variety of fields, especially entrepreneurship, which contributes directly to regional economic development. 大发鈥檚 recent reflects the type of startup ecosystem that is being built at the university to which CoBA鈥檚 entrepreneurship program directly contributes.
The CoBA Entrepreneurship Program has several leaders in place to guide its effort. Dr. Serhan Kotiloglu is Director of the Entrepreneurship Program, leading CoBA鈥檚 new entrepreneurship option in the BSBA degree. Mark Monahan is leading our co-curricular entrepreneurship success activities, building partnerships in the entrepreneurship and venture community in support of CoBA students. Dr. Paola Ometto is Faculty Director of Entrepreneurship, helping 大发鈥檚 Innovation Hub carry out entrepreneurship activities for our campus and external communities.
The CoBA Entrepreneurship leadership team has been working on activities that are benefiting the college and its community. For instance, the Innovation Hub and CoBA are partnering to launch the Resilient Entrepreneur Program to support the local community in building sustainable enterprises. CoBA recently received approval to offer a Veterans Startup Seed Fund to provide our veterans students with access to pivotal, early stage micro funds to grow new businesses. For two years now, in partnership with Junior Achievement, CoBA has offered Summer Opportunity Workshops in Entrepreneurship to local high school students, fostering early entrepreneurial interest and education.
CoBA will continue to develop new and innovative entrepreneurial learning opportunities for CoBA students and the CoBA community. We will partner with campus and the external venture community to provide a complete ecosystem of entrepreneurship educational support in North County San Diego. If you would like to learn more about our program or to discuss how we can partner to move the program forward, please reach out to Dr. Serhan Kotiliglu (skotiloglu@csusm.edu) or Dean Ron Ramirez (rramirez@csusm.edu).
