CEHHS Dean鈥檚 Outstanding Student Award

The CEHHS Dean鈥檚 Award is an annual recognition to a graduating student who is earning a Bachelor鈥檚, Master鈥檚 Degree, Doctoral Degree, or Teaching Credential and has demonstrated outstanding academic, service, and/or leadership accomplishments during his/her/their tenure at California State University San Marcos. The student selected by the dean will then be considered for the President鈥檚 Outstanding Graduate Award, the highest award bestowed on a student graduating from California State University San Marcos.

  The Dean鈥檚 Award is an annual recognition to a graduating student who is earning a Bachelor鈥檚, Master鈥檚 Degree, Doctoral Degree, or Teaching Credential and has demonstrated outstanding academic, service, and/or leadership accomplishments during his/her/their tenure at California State University San Marcos. The student nominated should not only demonstrate academic distinction but also show a strong record of service to the college, the university, and/or the surrounding community. Given our commitment to educating students who will serve as agents of change in their workplaces or communities, this award signals their accomplishments thus far and our anticipation of their future laudatory contributions as CEHHS alumni.

  Each college dean, working with respective faculty and/or staff, is asked to select a student to be recognized with this honor at commencement ceremonies. The student selected by the dean will then be considered for the President鈥檚 Outstanding Graduate Award, the highest award bestowed on a student graduating from California State University San Marcos.

  Award Criteria:

  • Completion of Bachelor鈥檚, Master鈥檚 Degree, Doctoral Degree, or Teaching Credential in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 (includes Summer 2024)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Evidence of outstanding academic, service, and/or leadership accomplishments

  Submission:

  • Nomination packets are submitted to bmottola@csusm.edu by March 7, 2025, and must include:
  • Department/school written recommendation describing the outstanding academic, leadership, and/or service accomplishments of the nominee.
  • Nominee resume to include academic, leadership, and/or service history.
  • Personal statement by the nominee regarding the significance of this educational accomplishment and their plans for the future.

  Award Process:

  • Nomination: Each CEHHS department or school will select one graduate based on the criteria above. The Chair or Director is to forward the submission packet to the Dean鈥檚 Office by the deadline above.
  • Selection Committee: The college coordinating committee (CCC) will be responsible for reviewing nominations and recommending to the Dean the CEHHS Outstanding Graduate award.
  • Review and Evaluation: The committee will evaluate the nominations based on the criteria outlined above.
  • Announcement and Award: The College Awardee will be notified by the Dean and that person鈥檚 packet will be forwarded to the office of the President to be considered for the President鈥檚 Outstanding Graduate The College Awardee will be honored at a special recognition ceremony hosted by the President in May. Nominating faculty/staff and the Dean will be invited to attend this recognition ceremony. The College awardee and all department and school awardees will be recognized at the CEHHS Student and Alumni Recognition Ceremony.

CEHHS Outstanding Alumni Student Award

The CEHHS Outstanding Alumni Student Award recognizes an alumnus who has shown great promise early in their career, embodies the College鈥檚 vision of preparing graduates who are agents of change in their workplaces and communities, or achieved significant professional or humanitarian accomplishments.

• Outstanding Alumni Student Award - Details, Nomination Process, and Deadlines

  Annually, each CEHHS department or school may nominate one alumnus who exemplifies the qualities of the graduates we strive to prepare. To this end, we invite departments and schools to identify an alumnus of CEHHS who has either (1) shown great promise early in their career; (2) embodied the College鈥檚 vision of preparing graduates who are agents of change in their workplaces and communities; or (3) achieved significant professional or humanitarian accomplishments. All nominees are also someone who maintains an active relationship with our campus community.

  Given our commitment to prepare highly skilled and ethical educators, researchers, health care, human services, and movement specialists who transform their work and community environments, this award signals their accomplishments and thus our laudatory acknowledgment as notable CEHHS alumni.

  Award Criteria:

  • Evidence of early promise in their professional, service, or volunteer life; or
  • Significant professional achievement or humanitarian service; or
  • Someone who embodies the College鈥檚 vision of preparing graduates who are agents of change in their workplaces and communities; and
  • Evidence of continued support or contribution to their program, CEHHS, or Cal State San Marcos.

  Submission:

  • Nomination packets are submitted to bmottola@csusm.edu by March 7, 2025 and must include:
  • With their consent, a (no longer than) 2-page statement addressing why the nominee should be acknowledged as an outstanding CEHHS alumnus in light of the award criteria.

  Award Process:

  • Nomination: Faculty, staff, and students can submit nominations for alumni who meet the Nominations should include a brief description of the individual鈥檚 contributions and their alignment with the selection criteria.
  • Selection Committee: The committee will evaluate the nominations based on the criteria outlined above.
  • Review and Evaluation: The college coordinating committee (CCC) will be responsible for reviewing nominations and recommending to the Dean the Outstanding Alumni Award.
  • Announcement and Award: The selected alumni will be announced at a dedicated ceremony or event during the spring semester, and they will receive an award to honor their contributions.

CEHHS Student Champion for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity

The CEHHS Student Champion for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Award recognizes a CEHHS student for significant contributions to the college and/or university community in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and equity.

• Student Champion for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Award - Details, Nomination Process, and Deadlines

  The College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) bestows an annual award to recognize a CEHHS student for significant contributions to the college and/or university community in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and equity.

  Award Criteria:

  The Committee for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (CIDE) welcomes nominations, including self-nominations, for current undergraduate and graduate student champions for inclusion, diversity, and equity. A student may be nominated by any member of our community (e.g., faculty, staff, students, community members). This award is granted to an individual who has:

  • Engaged in practices and efforts related to inclusion, diversity, and equity. How do these align with CEHHS鈥檚 vision and mission?
  • Advanced inclusion, diversity, and equity for historically marginalized and underrepresented individuals in unique and creative ways. How do these align with CEHHS鈥檚 vision and mission?
  • Intends to continue or extend their inclusion, diversity, and equity efforts as a future graduate of our college.

  Submission:

  Nomination packets are submitted to bmottola@csusm.edu by March 7, 2025 and must include the following in a single submission packet:

  Prepared by the student nominee:

  • A personal statement of 1-2 pages addressing award criteria (above).
  • One item that showcases the student nominee鈥檚 work in terms in relation to award criteria. This may include a resume, PowerPoint, nominee-created/co-created resources, or video, etc. outlining their accomplishments.

  Prepared by faculty, staff, or community member nominator:

  • A nominee recommendation letter addressing the award criteria above. 

  Award Process:

  • Members of CIDE will review the nomination packets and recommend a nominee to the Dean.
  • The awardee will be acknowledged at the annual CEHHS Student and Alumni Awards Recognition Celebration.

CEHHS Distinguished Partner Recognition

The CEHHS Distinguished Partner Recognition aims to recognize and strengthen our collaborations with organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to our shared goals and values.  This award recognizes a community partner that has made exceptional contributions to our college.

• Distinguished Partner Recognition - Details, Nomination Process, and Deadlines

  The Distinguished Partner Plan for CEHHS is designed to establish a meaningful and mutually beneficial partnership recognition program. Each year, our academic college will have the opportunity to honor and celebrate a community partner that has made exceptional contributions to our college. This initiative aims to recognize and strengthen our collaborations with organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to our shared goals and values.

  Award Criteria:

  • Longevity of Partnership: The length of the partnership and the consistency of
  • Impact on the Academic College: The extent to which the partner's contributions have benefited our college, including but not limited to student success, research, and community engagement.
  • Innovation and Creativity: The partner's ability to bring new ideas and approaches to our programs and initiatives.
  • Commitment to Our Mission: Alignment with the mission, vision, and values of CEHHS and a demonstrated commitment to our educational and research goals.
  • Sustainability: The potential for the partnership to continue to grow and evolve in the future.

  Submission:

  • Announcement and Award: The selected partner will be announced at a dedicated ceremony or event during the spring semester, and they will receive an award to honor their contributions.

  Content for the Recognition:

  The content for recognizing the Distinguished Partner of the Year should include:

  • Award Presentation: A physical award and a certificate of recognition to be presented to the partner during the ceremony.
  • Media Coverage: We will request an article and/or press release to be written and published by University Communications and then publicize the partnership and the recognition on media platforms. 
  • Feature on CEHHS Website: We will showcase the award/story on CEHHS web homepage social platforms as well as share it with University Advancement.
