Key Historical Milestones
Every great story must have a beginning, get to know the history of ´ó·¢, from our
origin dating back to the 1960s, to our formation and key milestones along the way.
- 1960s: Business and civic leaders advocate for a state university in North San Diego County.
- 1982: Campus moves to San Marcos to accommodate growth.
- 1988: CSU trustees purchase Prohoroff Poultry Farm for $10.6 million as the future home
of ´ó·¢.
- 1989: Gov. George Deukmejian signs Senate Bill 365, officially founding ´ó·¢.
- 1990: ´ó·¢ opens with 448 students, 12 faculty and nine majors.
- 1991: Seven students are awarded the first Bachelor of Arts degrees in campus history.
- 1992: Permanent campus opens
