The CSU's Supportive Pathways for First Year Students

Prepare for Success

Congratulations on joining California State University San Marcos! We are here to assist in your transition to higher education with preparation courses that build a foundation for your academic success.

These courses are termed Supportive Pathways for first-year students with recommended Cougar Scholars: Early Start options to help you satisfy your math and/or English requirements.

Which Option Is For You?

Cougar Scholars: Early Start Program serves CSUMS's admitted freshmen who have not demonstrated proficiency in English/Written Communication and/or Math/Quantitative Reasoning as determined by the CSU Systemwide Placement Standards using  determined for 

Multiple measures are divided into four categories

Category 1

Fulfilled Requirement

Category 2

Enroll in GE English/Written Communication and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Courses

Category 3

Enroll in Supported GE English/Written Communication and Mathematics/Quantitative
Reasoning Courses.

Participation in Early Start is recommended.

Category 4

Enroll in Supported GE Written Communication and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Courses.

Participation in Early Start is strongly recommended.

 

 

Multiple measures takes into consideration Algebra-Intensive (see below) and non-Algebra Intensive majors.


 

Who should participate?

Students that are considered:

  • Enroll with Support, Cougar Scholars: Early Start strongly recommended -- should participate.
  • Enroll with Support -- recommended to participate.
