CSU Pathfinders for Palliative Care

Each year, many students leave college because of their own illness or the need to take on a larger role in the care of their loved ones.

  • 17% of students are dealing with chronic illnesses, including 1 in 100 who are living with cancer1
  • 5 million college students are currently providing care to adults2
  • 20-30% are actively grieving the loss of a loved one3.

Mission

To provide palliative care education and support to college students who are experiencing serious illness, caring for others who are seriously ill, or grieving the loss of loved ones.

Vision

The CSU Palliative Care Pathfinders Program envisions a future where college students who are dealing with significant health and caregiving issues are supported by specialized programs provided by their campuses to support these students as they navigate their challenges, find a way to graduation, and enter into the workforce.

Objectives

  1. To establish the CSU Palliative Care Pathfinders Program at each of the 23 CSU campuses to ensure student access to palliative care education.
  2. To make readily accessible programming that educates and supports students with serious illness and those providing care to loved ones.
  3. Decrease the number of students leaving college due to illness or caregiving responsibilities.
  4. Provide and promote CSU Palliative Care Pathfinders fundraising activities that will support program goals.

Programming for the CSU Palliative Care Pathfinders is currently under development with a launch date of September 2024.  Please check back for more information in late summer.
