MANAGEMENT
To provide information, resources, and materials to help young children (ages 4-8), children (ages 9-13), youth (ages 12-17), and young adult (ages 18-25) caregivers to successfully cope with caregiving and bereavement so they can enjoy the highest quality of life possible.
This Young Caregivers Website, a component of our Youth Resiliency Project, was created by Dr. Sharon Hamill, Psychology/ Child and Adolescent Development Professor, current Director of University Relations and Research and Founding Faculty Director of the CSU Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care. Her research focuses on (1) adolescent and young adult caregivers in families with grandparents who suffer from Alzheimer鈥檚 and other diseases and (2) how palliative care can alleviate suffering and promote higher quality of life for patients and their families. She is active in promoting support for family caregivers in local schools and through her work with the Institute and the San Diego Coalition for Compassionate Care. She is a member of the of the American Association of Caregiving Youth. Dr. Hamill has taught at 大发 since 1996 and was the recipient of the 2015-2016 Harry E. Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award at 大发 for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
