Poster Session Application
Social Mobility Research and Promising Practice Poster Presentations
Social mobility poster sessions are impactful projects that can highlight social mobility
research or social mobility promising/ best practices and programs.
Poster Session
To share ideas and promote dialogue, we invite posters focusing on research or promising
practices in student success leading to social mobility and economic prosperity. Posters
may emphasize early childhood, K-12, higher education, and community partnerships
that promote social mobility. These posters are welcome to highlight in-progress and/or
completed research or promising practices. Accepted poster participants will design,
print, and bring the posters to the symposium. Presenters will be provided with space
to display posters. During the symposium, there is a dedicated poster session time
block; we ask presenters to be present to engage with symposium attendees.

Posters size:
- The dimensions of Posterboards are 78" Height/Tall x 50" Wide, which is the size of the rolling board
on which posters are mounted.
- Our picture is an example of the board which posters will be mounted on.
- We find that typical boards are printed at: 36 in height x 48 in width (while more space could be utilized. Most people do boards
that are poster size at the top of the board).
- Your poster will be displayed on the first day of the symposium, Thursday, Feb. 20,
2025.
- During the dedicated poster session (tentatively scheduled for noon – 1:30 p.m.),

Resources:
Feel free to follow your institution's standards for poster development. Here are
some additional resources for developing academic posters:
Some general best practices in designing academic posters:
- Highlight the main point: Make sure the main point of the poster is easy to read and
understand from a distance.
- Limit text: Try to keep the text to a minimum, ideally between 300–800 words.
- Use visuals: Include images, charts, or graphics to help convey information.
- Use basic design principles: Make sure the poster is accessible to as many people
as possible.
- List contact information: In large font, include the title, author names, and institution
at the top of the poster.
- Consider including a QR code so participants can link to your poster or to your contact
information.
- Set dimensions early: Set the dimensions of the poster before adding components or
editing it.
