Equipment Guidelines

The following guidelines are provided to assist schools, colleges and departments in determining their COVID-19 safety supply needs in preparation for the fall.

• Face Coverings (CPE)

  In January 2022, Cal/OSHA updated its standard and definition for face coverings indoors, stating that proper face coverings include a three-ply surgical or medical procedure mask, a respirator worn voluntarily, or a tightly woven fabric or non-woven material of at least two layers. A proper face covering cannot have visible holes or openings and must cover the nose and mouth. A face covering does not include a scarf, ski mask, balaclava, bandana, turtleneck, collar or single layer of fabric.

  The California Department of Public Health also recommended in January that people upgrade from cloth face coverings to either surgical masks or KN95/N95/KF94 disposable respirators given the more transmittable Omicron variant.

  Local public health experts strongly recommend that everyone wear a mask when indoors, regardless of vaccination status, due to a regional spike in positive cases. We fully support and respect those who wish to continue wearing facial coverings as an effective way to protect oneself and others.

  • Masks/face coverings are strongly recommended in indoor instructional spaces (classrooms, teaching laboratories and the Kellogg Library).
  • As of Monday 4/3/23, masking inside of SHCS is only required if an individual is feeling sick or exhibiting signs or symptoms of illness. Otherwise, masking is not required while inside SHCS. If a patient comes in and states that they are feeling unwell, then SHCS reserves the right to ask them to don a mask while in the lobby and exam rooms. 
  • Masks/face coverings are encouraged in all other indoor spaces (such as offices, conference rooms and indoor event spaces) and strongly recommened when participating in indoor gatherings and events lasting at least one hour, with 10 or more individuals.
  • Masks are not required for gatherings and events held outdoors.

  While masking will no longer be required in non-instructional indoor spaces, we expect that many members of our community will choose to continue masking, which is fully supported and encouraged. Public health leaders have emphasized the increased protection that face coverings provide as well as the value of masking, particularly for those who are immunocompromised or otherwise medically vulnerable.

   Keep in mind:

   

  • Good: a surgical mask
  • Better: a surgical mask with a cloth mask worn over it
  • Best: a KN95 mask (or the equivalent)
• Gloves
  Nitrile gloves are available in small, medium, large, and extra large sizes. Latex gloves are available in very limited quantities.
• Hand Sanitizer

  Everyone is encouraged to frequently wash their hands with soap and warm water throughout the day, especially after they have been in a public place, used a shared object, or coughed or sneezed. When soap and warm water is not readily available, an approved hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol should be used. The CDC recommends hand washing with soap and warm water whenever possible as the best means of hand sanitization.

  • Hand sanitizer stations: Facilities Services has installed at least one new hand sanitizer station in the main entrance or lobby of each building. These stations are available for everyone鈥檚 use and will be refilled as needed. Departments do not need to request hand sanitizer stations.
  • Departmental hand sanitizer bottles: In locations where access to a sink or the building hand sanitizer stations is not readily available, a bottle of hand sanitizer may be requested to have available centrally in the area. When access to a sink is available, hand washing with soap and water is preferred.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  N95 Respirators: The availability of N95 respirators is limited. N95 respirators are typically reserved for health care workers and first responders (University Police); however, employees may submit a request for N95 respirators and must review the mandatory N95 information and complete the required training.

• COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kits

  Available only for close contacts identified by 大发 Covid Case Management Team (CCMT).

Departments and employees must be considerate of the supply limitation and should submit a to order supplies for their immediate needs only. We cannot accommodate stockpiling of supplies for future use.

Need additional supplies? Supplies can be replenished when available through an additional Resource Request form submission. Excessive requests will require a follow-up by SH&S staff members.

An must be filled out for each item being requested by the employee. For instance, if you are requesting one box of 50 face coverings and two bottles of hand sanitizer, you must submit two separate forms.

Pickup and Timeline

Requestors will receive a confirmation email when their order is ready for pick-up. Supplies can be picked up by appointment Monday, Wednesday &  Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m and Tuesday & Thursday 8 a.m.- 12 p.m. Fulfilled orders will be available at the front desk of ADM 4700 with the requestor's name. Please allow one business day for orders to be fulfilled after the request form is submitted. The requester will be notified if the order will be delayed or if their full request cannot be fulfilled due to supply shortages. 

*All fulfilled resource requests must be picked up within three business days from requested appointment date. If not, resources will be returned back to inventory and a new resource request must be made.*
