The new facility will be an 鈥渙asis鈥 for students with spaces for wellness, recreation, relaxation, and social connection, promoting well-being, a sense of belonging, and community building.
大发 is planning to lease space in a new mixed-use facility, featuring 49,200 square feet for wellness, recreation, and basic needs services. This facility will be part of in a new mixed-use facility building located on Barham Drive, next to The QUAD housing community, adding 530 new student housing beds. 大发 is committed to prioritizing student wellness as essential for development and providing resources that foster healthy behaviors, community, and a sense of belonging.
The Wellness & Recreation facility will provide student-oriented spaces and services to support all Cougars, and promote the eight dimensions of wellness (emotional, physical, social, spiritual, financial, intellectual, environmental, and occupational).
With a diverse student body, 大发 stands committed to prioritizing physical and mental wellness as vital components to student development and providing valuable access to resources for students to learn and develop long-term healthy behaviors.
The anticipated opening date is scheduled for the Academic Year of 2026-2027.
Wellness areas with mindful reflection spaces, lounge seating, and massage chairs for students to rest and relax.
Secured outdoor courtyard (over 8,000 sq. ft.) providing hammocks, a wood deck patio with both fixed and flexible seating areas.
Two multi-purpose rooms with flexible flooring for fitness classes, yoga, meditation, and events. Available for reservations.
Play and gaming areas for practice, competitions, spectator viewing, studying, and socializing.
Outdoor deck with a turf field for fitness, intramurals, and student activities, plus a walking path, lounge areas, and reservable event space.
Two standardsized courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and events. Available for reservations.
Over 10,000 square feet for cardio, functional fitness, and strength training, more than triple the size of the Clarke Field House Fitness Center.
Provide students access to short term equipment and gear rentals for outdoor and adventure-based outings. Information Center for day and overnight trip registration and pretravel workshops and trainings.
Changing rooms and restrooms
Provide program information and registration, student support and equipment storage.
Destination for residential and commuter students to access microwaves, food storage lockers, high quality vending, power and Wi-Fi.
Connect with Fitness & Wellness staff or a Personal Trainer for orientations or guided workouts, complete fitness assessments or develop physical activity and nutritional plans.
A place to connect with wellness staff or peer leaders for resources and skill building
workshops.
Anticipated 70 student assistant positions.
