´ó·¢ Students have advocated for increased wellness, basic needs and recreational spaces and services to support the needs and growth of the entire campus community since 2016. Since 2019, working groups of students and staff have been tasked to identify paths to achieve this goal. This effort has included two student surveys garnering over 2,400 respondents and multiple focus groups and forums with over 250 students, staff, and administrators. This intentional analysis and stakeholder outreach was completed to ensure that the facility serves as a welcoming and inclusive environment that can be responsive to the campus community, while providing supportive and high-value services for the students of today and into the future.

Fee Referendum: October 21-23, 2024

During Spring 2024, a fee referendum vote was held with over 1,300 students voting. While student interest in the project was high, issues of cost and timing of the proposed fee increase proved detrimental to the success of the referendum. That message was humbly received, and specific concerns have been addressed in this revised project. These include the following:

  1. The design of the facility was modified to reduce the construction costs and lease expense, resulting in a reduction in the amount of the fee increase from $230 to $210 per semester.
  2. The original proposal initiated the fee increase in the fall of 2025, one year prior to the opening of the facility. This has been changed so that the fee will not be charged until the year it opens, meaning those who pay the fee will have the opportunity to use the new facility.
  3. Programmatic efficiencies were found to create more multi-use, multi-function space to support more diverse programming.

Your vote is a step toward creating the campus you envision, one that prioritizes wellness, community, and student success.
