Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives

Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)

California State University San Marcos (大发) was designated as a (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education in 2010. At that time, 27% of undergraduate students identified as Latinx, a figure that has grown to over 50% by 2023. This intentional growth reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education and addressing the needs of a diverse student body.

大发 supports Latinx student success through culturally responsive instruction, tailored support services, mentorship opportunities, and collaboration with student organizations, faculty, and staff. These efforts foster belonging, engagement, and academic and personal growth for all students. More details on our ongoing initiatives and resources for Latinx student success are below.

The Seal of Excelencia is a designation offered by Excelencia in Education awarded to institutions who meet Excelencia in Education鈥檚 rigorous standards in demonstrating the impact of their programs and services in supporting the success of Latinx students as supported by institutional data.

Resources for Latinx faculty and staff empower their professional development and foster an inclusive academic environment where the rich diversity of Latinx perspectives is valued and supported.
