To learn more about Blue and how to use our new student feedback survey software, please visit our Blue Resources webpage for detailed guides and support.

    • How can I review the questions being asked of students?

All of the forms that are utilized are located on the Student Feedback Surveys on Teaching website at the bottom of the page (www.csusm.edu/course-evals).

    • Where can I find past semester reports of Student Feedback Surveys on Teaching for my WPAF?

You can find past semester reports by logging into , where individual and comparison (profile line) reports will be available starting from Fall 2018 and forward. If you need reports prior to Fall 2018, please reach out to your College Contact for assistance.

    • What should I tell my students about the student feedback surveys on teaching system?

Faculty can tell their students that student feedback surveys on teaching links will be sent to their 大发 email address, can be accessed via , or can be accessed directly via . Faculty will also be instrumental in achieving higher response rates as they can reinforce, at the end or beginning of lectures or activities, the importance of completing the surveys.

    • Does the student feedback survey on teaching system allow faculty to ask additional questions?

Yes!  Faculty may add in Question Personalization (or QP) directly into their surveys.  See the Blue Resources page for a process guide on how to add questions directly into your course survey.

    • What actions will be taken to encourage students to respond?

Our campus is working together to increase response rates, because we know how important this feedback is for instructor evaluation and to inform curricular decisions. One step that has been made is to implement a new system that is much more user friendly, requires fewer duplicate emails, and has one landing page for everyone to see all of their surveys.

Student communications have been updated to emphasize the importance of the student feedback process and more strongly encourage participation. The invitations have also been updated to reduce the number of clicks for students to enter the surveys. For non- responders, the system automatically generates reminder emails every three days during the survey window.

Faculty may also send emails to students that have not yet completed the surveys through their Subject Management page in Blue.  Faculty may also use the QR code generator to display in class for students to scan and respond to the class survey while in class.  We encourage faculty to review the document Strategies for Increasing Response Rates for tips they may wish to consider.

    • Will I be able to monitor response rates while the survey period is open?

Yes!  With the implementation of Blue in Fall of 2024, faculty will be able to see their response rates during the survey period.  This view becomes available in their Blue landing page when the surveys open to the students and will show until the surveys close.

    • How will I know my student feedback survey on teaching has been sent to my students?

Faculty will receive an email 24 hours before the start of the survey notifying them that the survey will start the next day.  In addition, faculty can see their survey statuses in their Blue landing page for each course.  Any faculty who did not receive an email or cannot log in to Blue but need to have their course evaluated should contact their college course evaluation coordinator (see our Student Feedback Surveys on Teaching website or the end of this document for a list of coordinators)

    • How will I know when my student feedback surveys on teaching results are available?

Faculty will have access to their survey results following the submission of final grades. A calendar at the bottom of our homepage shows when faculty will receive their survey results. Faculty can retrieve their results via the Blue platform.

    • How do I save a copy of my student feedback survey on teaching results?

Faculty are strongly encouraged to save a copy of their student feedback survey on teaching results each semester, to be stored and used later as part of the WPAF process. The best way to save your survey results is to download the results from Blue through .pdf file or .csv file, and save it in a secure location.

    • Can I see my results from past semesters?

If you were not able to save your reports from the email sent in prior semesters, student feedback survey on teaching reports may be requested from the Dean鈥檚 Office of your College.

    • Who will have access to the results of my student feedback surveys on teaching?

Access to your student feedback surveys on teaching will be granted to the evaluation coordinator and Dean/Assistant Dean associated with your College, as well as your Department Chair. The Student Feedback Survey on Teaching administrators have access to all survey results due to their role in administering the process and distributing reports. Other than these select few individuals, no one will have access to your student feedback surveys on teaching and reports other than you.

    • What if I am an instructor and I am also taking courses?

You will receive an email to your student account notifying you that your student feedback surveys on teaching are available for completion for the courses you are currently enrolled in. Additionally, you can access and complete the surveys through Cougar Courses or directly via Blue.

For courses you are currently teaching, signing into allows you to add personalized questions, monitor response rates, and view survey results once final grades have been submitted.

    • Are students who withdrew from the course included in the student feedback survey on teaching process?

We have a process in place that removes students who have withdrawn from the class prior to the surveys being sent out.

    • How do I add the student feedback surveys on teaching to my Cougar Courses navigation bar?
The student feedback surveys on teaching container is now automatically added to Cougar Courses.  As an instructor you will need to "unhide" the module so that the students may easily access through Cougar Courses. You can also sign in directly to to access and monitor your student feedback surveys.
    • Can faculty give input regarding appropriate weeks in the semester to have the student feedback surveys on teaching be accessible to students?

Unless a course ends on a date other than the normal course schedule, we cannot currently accommodate a different survey schedule. Student feedback surveys on teaching are sent out so that students have sufficient time to submit their responses.  Students then have until midnight on the last day of classes to submit their survey.
