Upcoming 2025 Graduation Celebration!

At our 2025 Graduation Celebration, the department will present several graduates with student awards!  The following awards will be presented: CMS Outstanding Student, CMS Community Service Champion, CMS Inclusive Excellence Champion & CMS Scholarship and Creative Works Champion.  Student names to be announced at Graduation Celebration.

Oct. 15, 2024 - Employment Search Panel

The Department of Communication and Media Studies (CMS) held an Employment Search Panel on Oct. 15, 2024.   Two speakers discussed potential career paths upon receiving a degree in CMS. Dr. Christopher Bell (CMS Lecturer) 
talked about working in Hollywood as a Diversity and Inclusion consultant with Pixar.  Victoria Vasquez, one of our CMS alum, talked about her work with a non-profit organization and the steps she took to obtain her current position.

Sept. 18, 2024 - Meet & Greet Kickoff 

CMS kicked off our Fall 2024 Semester with the return of our Meet & Greet event!  Students enjoyed interacting with their peers and faculty members.

After a very long break, CMS held their Graduation Celebration on May 7, 2024!  We were so happy to see graduates, families, friends and faculty come together at the Clarke Field House.  It was great to be back on campus for a memorable event like this.

On May 17, 2018, the Department co-hosted the annual Graduation Celebration for Communication majors and minors and Mass Media graduates. Photos from the celebration are available on the  The special moments we captured can be seen in the video montage. 

Dept. Student Org's Co-Sponsor Panel on Disability Advocacy

On Monday, April 9, 2018, Lambda Pi Eta and Communication Society jointly co-sponsored the panel entitled "Disability and Voice: Communication and Intersectional Identities in Ability Advocacy."

Panelists engaged in discussion on how communication can empower and bring about social justice in disability advocacy. Such panelists include Dr. Kurt Lindemann, Dr. Andrew Spieldenner, and Cheryl Berry. The panel was moderated by Danielle C. Biss, Co-President of Lambda Pi Eta.

The event was held in Kellogg 5400, the Library Reading Room, at 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. 

Literature to Heal the Soul in Uncertain Times: Afrofeminism, Lesbian Resistance, and Poetry

The Department of Communication is co-sponsoring the event entitled "Literature to heal the Soul in Uncertain Times: Afrofeminism, Lesbian Resistance, and Poetry." The event will take place February 13, 2018 and begins at 6:00 PM in the USU Ballroom.
