Chair Jackie Trischman opened the third Academic Senate meeting of 2012-13 with two
announcements regarding long-time faculty members: (1) There will be a reception on
November 15 sponsored by the Department of Mathematics to mark Professor Brooks Reid鈥檚
retirement; (2) Congratulations to Professor of Education John Halc贸n, who was elected
to the Palomar College Board of Trustees. Trischman and President Haynes noted the
passage of Proposition 30, which will restore some funding to the CSU. Implications
for 大发 will roll out in the coming weeks and months. Trischman also made formal
referrals to several standing committees.
In the major item of business, the Senate approved the School of Education鈥檚 Certificate
of Advanced Study in educational technology, 鈥淲iki, Widgets and Web 2.0,鈥 and a revised
policy on Latin Honors Criteria. Discussion items that will be considered for a vote
in December are the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Retention,
Tenure and Promotion (RTP) policy as well as a minor revision to the university RTP
policy. A draft of meeting norms for Senate work (committees, task forces, etc.)
was presented as an information item from Executive Committee. The drafts of all
these are available on the Senate website as attachments to the November 7 agenda
at www.csusm.edu/senate.
Complete minutes of each Academic Senate meeting are available on the Senate website
as soon as they are approved at the following Senate meeting. The next Senate meeting
is Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Commons 206. You do not need to be a senator
to attend Senate meetings. All members of the campus community (students, faculty,
staff, administrators) are welcome to attend. Only senators may vote at the meetings.
