Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Xiaoye She鈥檚 book Understanding Local Agency in China鈥檚 Policy Reform examines evolving roles of local agency in social policy in post-reform China. Using a subnational comparison approach, the book illustrates how local governments have actively coordinated their policies in economic and social realms, and how they have identified new ways to cope with growing top-down political pressure. The book contributes to a growing interdisciplinary literature that examines political economy of social policy in non-western and authoritarian political systems.
Dr. Meshack Simati's new book, Post-Election Violence in Africa, explores the effect of the judiciary on the incidence of post-election violence by political actors across Africa and within African countries. It examines how variation in judicial independence can constrain or incentivize election violence among democratizing states.
