Prof. Jill Watts Discusses Book on NPR
Dr. Jill Watts discussed her third book, Hattie McDaniel: Black Ambition, White Hollywood, on the National Public Radio program Talk of the Nation on October 5. Link to the to hear the interview. Dr. Watts also appeared at Borders Books in Carmel Mountain Ranch on the evening of Oct. 28 before an enthusiastic audience of some sixty people. McDaniel won an Academy award as best supporting actress for Gone with the Wind but would be criticized for playing subservient roles. Dr. Watts' book was featured in the Sunday North County Times and has been reviewed in the Union-Tribune, the Seattle Times, and the New Yorker.
