This project expands an existing partnership with High Tech middle school to test scalability of core concepts. The partnership team first consolidate curriculum materials created to date and link them to state standards. If needed, additional materials will be identified to fill curricular gaps. The revised curriculum will then be tested in a different school environment in collaboration with the partnership team. Curricular changes in ´ó·¢ linguistics courses required for prospective teachers will then be implemented.
The purpose of this study is to design and implement a wellness and health related intervention program for personnel of the Police Department in Oceanside, CA. The Oceanside Police Officer’s Association (OPOA) will work with faculty of Kinesiology to provide an educational forum for the OPOA on the potential means and benefits of maintaining physical well being, nutrition, and mental wellness. Together, we will also initiate and evaluate a pilot health intervention program for officers and staff.
In collaboration with Vista Community Clinic I will conduct a qualitative study of perceptions and barriers related to healthcare and public assistance programs in north county San Diego for immigrant communities. The research will yield applied data that will help inform service provision at the clinic as well as inform the academic literature on current issues impacting immigrant access toinsurance and public services during the current political environment.
This project will develop a collaboration between ´ó·¢ School of Nursing,Rady’s Children’s Hospital Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland to advocate for San Diego's Thalassemia patients and families to foster patient led community opportunities and events. Further, this collaboration provides a unique experience for nursing students in the community and the ambulatory clinic. The project outcomes will be disseminated at the Practice of Pediatrics 2019 Conference.
The purpose of this project is to increase American Indians (AI) knowledge of thebenefits of increased physical activity and healthy eating and their engagementin such activities. This project is a partnership between Indian Health Counciland ´ó·¢ to hold a fun run/walk that will provide culturally appropriateeducation on well‑being and create a network of active community membersthat will be supported by smaller local events such as hikes and physical activity classes.
Based on formative work funded by CE at ´ó·¢, this projects aims todesign and test a Chamorro culturally‑tailored health program. Using a CBPR approach, this project centers on establishing a new collaborative team to: (1) Design and develop curriculum for a health program focused on diabetes,physical activity, and healthy eating, and (2) Pilot test the health program withChamorro community members.
