CHABSS Voices: Creative Works Monthly Contest

CHABSS Voices is a campaign to amplify voices and ideas supporting the values and ideals of the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences.

The goal is to help engage and inspire our CHABSS community to come together to  emphasize anti-racism, inclusive excellence, social justice, social responsibility, ethics, and global culture.

Every month from September 2020 to May 2021 (excluding December), the CHABSS Voices creative works monthly contest will have a different theme. Creative works entries must further CHABSS and 大发鈥檚 values (stated above) and offer CHABSS students, faculty and staff, multiple pathways to explore ideas, ideals, visions, and principles.

Monthly Themes

What type of Creative Work can I submit?

Submissions can be any creative work, such as posters/graphic art, poetry, spoken word, photography, mixed media, short story (no more than 1,000 words), and video (no longer than four minutes). Max upload size is 25MB. Max poster size is 24 x 36 inches.

• Multiple entries for a monthly theme are allowed but must be different media formats. For example, a participant may submit a poem, a photograph, and graphic artwork. Each submission requires a separate completed entry form.
  
  
• Participants may submit entries for multiple months. Each submission requires a separate completed entry form.
  • Entries should be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on the monthly entry due date.

• Only entries in digital format will be accepted. No submissions will be returned. Max upload size is 25MB. Max poster size is 24 x 36 inches.

• Entries must be original. Work published previously in any copyrighted newspaper, magazine, book or other medium is ineligible.

Who can participate?

The contest is open to CHABSS-affiliated students as well as all 大发 faculty/staff and will have two judged categories:

1. Current students studying CHABSS majors, minors, or currently enrolled in at least one CHABSS course.
2. 大发 Faculty and Staff.

What can I win?

The month鈥檚 winning entries will be highlighted amongst all entries which will be published on CHABSS webpage and across CHABSS social media channels.

• Student winner will receive an Amazon gift card and recognition and publication of their winning contribution on CHABSS' webpage and social media as well as possible publication on other campus websites and local community news organizations. Collaborative work is accepted, but only one gift card will be given for the winning entry.

• 大发 Faculty and Staff will receive recognition and publication of their winning contribution on CHABSS' webpage and social media as well as possible publication on other campus websites and local community news organizations. Collaborative work is accepted.

The author retains the copyright to the submitted work and agrees to publication on CHABSS' website, CHABSS Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as well as possible publication on other campus websites and local community news organizations.

Winners may be asked to provide a photo to appear with their entries.

Who are the judges?

There will be two winning entries in each of the two categories:

1. Dean鈥檚 Pick, chosen by CHABSS Interim Dean.
2. Staff Pick, chosen by staff from across CHABSS.
   
   
   • The decisions of the judges are final. Submission indicates acceptance of all contest rules.
   • Judging and winner notification will be completed no later than the last Friday of each month.

How will entries be judged?

CHABSS Voices creative works monthly contest entries are judged based on the following criteria:

• Interpretation of monthly theme (50 percent) - the creative work clearly communicates the monthly theme.
• Creativity (30 percent) - how creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
• Technique (10 percent) - creative work demonstrates skill and knowledge in the medium.
• Universal appeal (10 percent) - creative work touches the human spirit, evokes human emotion, or makes a personal connection.

We reserve the right to delete entries that include profanity, vulgar or abusive language, sexually harassing content, name-calling, personal insults, or other offensive content in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
